Meeting No. 41

Friday, March 1st, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 8:58 a.m. this day, in Winnipeg, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Christiane Gagnon, Roger Gallaway, John Harvard, Clifford Lincoln and Grant McNally.

Acting Member present: Pat Martin for Wendy Lill.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Cofman, intern; Joseph Jackson, Research Officer; Consultant: David Black.

Witnesses: From the CanWest Global Communications Corp.: Leonard Asper, President and CEO; Kenneth Goldstein, Executive Vice-President & Chief Strategy Officer; Ken MacDonald, Vice-President, Global - News; Gerry Noble, President, Global Television; Charlotte Bell, Vice-President, Global - Regulatory Affairs. From the "Société franco-manitobaine": Daniel Boucher, President. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.  (See Minutes of Proceeding, dated Thursday, November 8, 2001, Meeting No. 26).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:18 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
