Wednesday, April 4, 2001
The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Yvon Charbonneau, Stan Dromisky, James Lunney, Rob Merrifield, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
Acting Members present: Howard Hilstrom for Diane Ablonczy
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, research officers.
Witnesses: From Health Canada: Dr. Marc LeMaguer, Director General, Food Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch; Dr. Karen Dodds, Director General, Office of Biotechnology and Science, Health Products and Food Branch. From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Dr. André Gravel, Executive Vice-President; Peter Brackenridge, Vice-President, Programs; Bart Bilmer, Director, Office of Biotechnology.
In accordance with the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), information session on food safety and on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Dr. Marc LeMaguer and Dr. André Gravel made opening statements, and, along with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
