Meeting No. 33

Thursday, September 20, 2001

The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:30 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Carolyn Bennett, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Roger Gallaway, Albina Guarnieri, Richard Harris, Sophia Leung, Yvan Loubier, John McCallum, Lorne Nystrom.

Acting Members present: Walt Lastewka for Gary Pilliteri; Dale Johnston for Jason Kenney; Deepak Obhrai for Joe Peschisolido and Mario Laframboise for Pauline Picard.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart; Marc-André Pigeon, Researchers.

Witnesses: From Aerospace Industries Association of Canada: Peter Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer. From Canadian Employee Relocation Council: Bruce Atyeo, Co-Chair, Government Relations Committee; Jacques Prévost, Co-Chair, Government Relations Committee. From Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation: Wes Biggs, President, Edgeflow; Mike Darch, Special Adviser to the President, Ottawa Economic Development - Division of OCRI. From Pratt & Whitney Canada International Inc.: Gilles Ouimet, President.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83(1), the Committee commenced its study on Pre-Budget Consultations.

Peter Smith, Jacques Prévost, Bruce Atyeo, Mike Darch, Wes Biggs and Gilles Ouimet made statements and answered questions.

Ken Epp moved, --That, with respect to the tragic events of September 11 in New York City and pursuant to Standing Order 108, this Committee send for the Minister of National Revenue to appear before the Committee at the earliest possible opportunity.

A lack of quorum having been noticed, the question could not be put.

At 11:15 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
