Meeting No. 22

Thursday, November 18, 1999

The Standing Committee on Transport met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Stan Keyes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Murray Calder, Bill Casey, Stan Dromisky, Claude Drouin, Michel Guimond, Charles Hubbard, Ovid Jackson, Dale Johnston, Stan Keyes, Val Meredith, Lou Sekora.

Acting Member: Carolyn Parrish for Joe Fontana.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Tourism Industry Association of Canada: Adam Belyea, Vice-President, Policy and Government Affairs; Gordon Stewart, Past Vice-Chair. From the Association of Canadian Travel Agents: Ron Pradinuk, Chair; Randall Williams, President. From the Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Sam Synard, President; Joseph P. Dion, Director of Policy and Public Affairs. From the Consumers' Association of Canada: Gail Lacombe, President; Jennifer Hillard, Vice-President, Issues and Policy. From the Democracy Watch: Duff Conacher, Coordinator; Daniel Martin Bellemare, Counsel.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the future of the airline industry in Canada.

Randall Williams, Ron Pradinuk and Adam Belyea made opening statements and, with Gordon Stewart, answered questions.

At 10:31 a.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 10:38 a.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Sam Synard made an opening statement and, with Joseph P. Dion, answered questions.

At 10:53 a.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 11:23 a.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Gail Lacombe, Jennifer Hillard, Daniel Martin Bellemare and Duff Conacher made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
