Meeting No. 54

Wednesday, May 17, 2000

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Dan McTeague, Ian Murray, Charlie Penson, Nelson Riis and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Aileen Carroll for Marlene Jennings; Murray Calder for Jerry Pickard and Hec Clouthier for Gerry Byrne.

Other Member present: Wendy Lill.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Geoffrey Kieley, Research Officers.

Witness: Tom Kent.

Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a Review of the Competition Act.

Tom Kent made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates under Industry for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001.

Dan McTeague moved, - That the Main Estimates under INDUSTRY for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001 be concurred in.

The question being put on the motion it was agreed to on division.

Dan McTeague moved, - That the Chair be instructed to report to the House of Commons the Main Estimates under INDUSTRY for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001 at the earliest convenience.

And the question being put on the motion it was agreed to on division.

At 4:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
