The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a televised session at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Francine Lalonde, The Hon. Diane Marleau, Ted McWhinney, The Hon. Fred Mifflin, Bob Mills, Deepak Obhrai, Denis Paradis, Bernard Patry, Svend Robinson, Yves Rocheleau, Bob Speller, Darrel Stinson.
Acting Members present: Sarmite Bulte for Hon. Fred Mifflin; Rick Casson for Darrel Stinson and Richard Marceau for Francine Lalonde.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Daniel Dupras, Research Officers.
Appearing: The Hon. Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of International Trade.
Witness: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jonathan Fried, Assistant Deputy Minister for Trade and Economic Policy.
Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(2) and 109, the Committee commenced its study of the Government Response to the Committee Report on Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Minister made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
