Meeting No. 4

Monday, November 1st, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and International Trade and the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met jointly at 11:35 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham and Acting Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Ted McWhinney, Svend Robinson, Bob Speller.

Acting Member present: Pauline Picard for Francine Lalonde.

Members of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs present: Robert Bertrand, Art Hanger, Janko Peric, David Pratt, George Proud, Elsie Wayne.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee; Gerry Schmitz, Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the North Atlantic Treaty Organization: The Rt Hon. Lord Robertson, Secretary General; Desmond Bowen, Director, Private Office; Kurt Volker, Deputy Director, Private Office; David Wright, Ambassador of Canada to NATO.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee convened a meeting with Rt. Hon. Lord Robinson, Secretary General to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

 The Rt. Hon. Lord Robertson made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:44 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
