Meeting No. 9

Thursday, April 15, 1999

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Deborah Grey and Joe Jordan.

Acting Member(s) present: Réal Ménard for Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral to 4:21 p.m. and Guy St-Julien for Andy Scott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Privy Council Office: The Hon. Stéphane Dion, President of the Privy Council and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Witness(es):From the Privy Council Office: Phil Ventura, Director General. From the Office for Disability Issues, Human Resources Development Canada: Karen Junke, Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) study of matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian Society

The Minister made a statement and with the other witness answered questions.

At 4:36 the Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business.

On a motion of Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral it was agreed that the round table scheduled for May 6th be televised.

At 4:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
