Wednesday, November 25, 1998
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a joint session with the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs at 4:10 p.m. o'clock this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, and Senator John Stewart, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed, Daniel Turp.
Members of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs present: Raynell Andrewchuck, Roch Bolduc, Eymard G. Corbin, Consiglio Di Nino, John B. Stewart, Eugene Whelan, Noel Kinsella.
Other Senators present: Janice Johnson, Doug Roche.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Peter Berg, Research Officers. From the Committee Directorate of the Senate: Serge Pelletier, Committee Clerk.
Witness: From the UN High Commission for Human Rights: H.E. Mary Robinson, High Commissioner and Eric Tistounet, External Relations Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with Mary Robinson, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
H.E. Mary Robinson made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 4:47 p.m. o'clock, the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
