The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:02 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Joe McGuire, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Leon E. Benoit, Rick Borotsik, Gerry Byrne, Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Denis Coderre, Jay Hill, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.
Acting Members present: Hec Clouthier for Paul Bonwick, Ovid Jackson for John Harvard, John Richardson for Paul Steckle, Wayne Easter for Denis Coderre and Garry Breitkreuz for Jake Hoeppner.
Other Member present: Raymond Lavigne.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator.
Witnesses: From United Grain Growers: Ted Allen, President and Chairman; Blair Rutter, Manager, Policy Development. From the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association: Larry Maguire, President; Paul D. Earl, Manitoba Policy Manager. From Prairie Pools Inc.: Marvin Shauf, Vice-Chairman, and Vice-President of Saskatchewan Wheat Pool; Brian Saunderson, Director, and Vice-President of Manitoba Pool Elevators;.Patty Townsend, Manager, Communications and Public Affairs.
The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference dated October 8, 1997 relating to Bill C-4, An Act to amend the Canadian Wheat Board Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceeding and Evidence of Meeting No. 2, dated Tuesday, October 21, 1997)
Ted Allen and Blair Rutter from the United Grain Growers made statements and Ted Allen answered questions.
Larry Maguire from the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.
Marvin Shauf and Brian Saunderson from the Prairie Pools Inc. made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.
At 11:35 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned until Tuesday, October 28, 1997.
