MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 62

Tuesday, May 4, 1999

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in camera at 11:15 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, John Bryden, John Finlay, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Derrek Konrad, Robert D. Nault, Mike Scott, Guy St-Julien and Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jill Wherrett, Research Officer.

The Committee resumed consideration of a Draft Report.

It was agreed, on division, -That the Interim Draft Report, as amended, of the Committee, on urgent issues arising from visits to Northern Quebec and Nunavut, in relation to its study under Standing Order 108(2) of Aboriginal Economic Development, be adopted as the Committee's Seventh Report, and that the Chair be instructed to present the said Report to the House.

It was agreed, -That the Title of the Report be: Aboriginal Economic Development: Urgent Issues Arising from Visits to Northern Quebec and Nunavut

It was agreed, - That the Seventh Report be printed in accordance with the policy established by the Board of Internal Economy in a tumble bilingual format.

It was agreed, -That the Committee authorize the Chair to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Committee request the Government to table a comprehensive response to the Report within 30 days.

It was agreed, -That the Seventh Report be translated into Inuktitut and Cree.

It was agreed, -That the Committee hear from the Musqueam Park Residents Association on Thursday, May 6, 1999, in relation to its review, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), of the Administration of Leases under the Indian Act.

At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
