Meeting No. 21

Tuesday, March 24, 1998

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:15 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 308, West Block, the Chair, Guy Saint-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, John Bryden, John Finlay, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Bernard Patry, Guy Saint-Julien and Mike Scott.

Acting Member present: Ivan Grose for Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mary C. Hurley and Jill Wherrett, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Industry Canada: Bob Dickson, Executive Director, Aboriginal Business Canada; Ricky Fontaine, Director General, Operations; Michael Jenkin, Director General,

Strategic Planning and Corporate Services.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2) and its decision of Thursday, February 19, 1998, Meeting No. 19, the Committee commenced a study of Aboriginal Economic Development.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:27 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 o’clock p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting resumed in camera, for discussion of future business.

At 12:55 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
