The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 6:37 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bev Shipley, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Earl Dreeshen, Hon. Mark Eyking, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Bev Shipley and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Randall Garrison, Niki Ashton for Francine Raynault, Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Mark Eyking, Hon. Ralph Goodale for Hon. Mark Eyking, Larry Maguire for Earl Dreeshen and Jeff Watson for Randy Hoback.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, March 28, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-30, An Act to amend the Canada Grain Act and the Canada Transportation Act and to provide for other measures.
 

Ian McCreary, by videoconference from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Brian Otto and Pierre Gratton made statements and, with Brendan Marshall, answered questions.

 

At 7:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mark Hemmes, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Peter Xotta and Robert Ballantyne, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 8:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Roger Larson made a statement and, with Humphrey Banack and Garnet Etsell, answered questions.

 

At 9:25 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:27 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 10,200, for the study of innovation and competitiveness, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-30, An Act to amend the Canada Grain Act and the Canada Transportation Act and to provide for other measures begin on Monday, April 7, 2014;

That, if there are votes occurring in the House during the meeting, the Committee shall resume the meeting after the votes; and

That, if the Committee has not completed the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-30 by 11:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014, the Chair shall put, forthwith and successively, all remaining questions to dispose of the Committee stage of the Bill without further debate.

 

At 9:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
