The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Guy André, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Pierre Lemieux, John Maloney, Ted Menzies and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Alex Atamanenko for Peter Julian.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Michael Holden, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Export Development Canada: Stephen Poloz, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, Corporate Affairs; Eric Siegel, President & Chief Executive Officer, International Trade.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Eric D. Siegel to the position of CEO which was referred to the Committee on January 1, 2007.
 

Eric D. Siegel made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee finds Eric D. Siegel to possess the qualifications and the competencies to perform the duties of the position of President of the Export Development Corporation and, that the Chair report the findings of the Committee to the House.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada's Trade Policy.
 

Stephen S. Poloz made statements and, with Eric D. Siegel, answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee approve a budget of $20,000.00 for the study on Canada's Trade Policy.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
