The Standing Committee on Finance met at 8:35 a.m. this day, in Nova Scotia D Room, Casino Nova Scotia Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, The Hon. Maria Minna, Shawn Murphy, Pierre Paquette, Charlie Penson, Gary Pillitteri, Tony Valeri, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member present: Alexa McDonough for The Hon. Lorne Nystrom.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal Analyst, Blayne Haggart, Research Officer.

Witnesses: As Individual: Paul O'Hara. From the Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada: Margie Vigneault, Nova Scotia Representative. From the Financial Executives Institute Canada: Prof. Barry Gorman, Tax Committee; Michael Murphy, President. Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

Paul O’Hara, Margie Vigneault, Prof. Barry Gorman, Robert A. Cook, Helen Patriquin, Jeff Sommerville made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:14 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Dr. Chris Ferns, Desmond A. Morley, Mary Jess MacDonald, John Fox made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
