Thursday, December 2, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:40 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Francine Lalonde, The Hon. Diane Marleau, Denis Paradis, Svend Robinson, Bob Speller.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its examination of the situation of human rights in Colombia.

Jeffrey House, William A. Schabas, Hon. David MacDonald, Bill Fairbairn, John Jones, Joan Grant-Cummings, Hassan Yussuff, Luis Eduardo Garzon, Manuel Rosental, Eleanor Douglas, Luis van Isschot, Steve Law and David L. Raby each made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
