Meeting No. 12

Tuesday, November 30, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:15 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Francine Lalonde, The Hon. Diane Marleau, Denis Paradis, Bernard Patry, Bob Speller.

Other Member present: Reg Alcock.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Daniel Dupras, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Nortel Networks Corporation: John Roth, President and CEO. From the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada: Peter Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer; Peter Boag, Vice-President. From the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association: Gerry Fedchun, President. From Med-Eng Systems Inc.: Richard L'Abbé, President. From the Export Development Corporation: A. Ian Gillespie, President and CEO; Gilles Ross, First Vice-President, Legal Services and Secretariat; Eric Siegel, Executive Vice-President, Medium and Long-term Financial Services; Louise Landry, Vice-President, Corporate Performance and Communications.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and Article 25(3) of the Export Development Act, the Committee resumed consideration of Report on the Review of the Export Development Act.

John Roth, Peter Smith, Gerry Fedchun and Richard L'Abbé each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., the sitting resumed.

A. Ian Gillespie made an opening statement and, with Louise Landry and Eric Siegel, answered questions.

At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
