With regard to agreements negotiated by Public Safety Canada with regional police forces across Canada concerning the collection of firearms from individuals for the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program, which began on October 1, 2025: (a) what devices are being used to destroy the confiscated firearms; (b) for each device in (a), which entity owns the device; (c) what are the total government expenditures to date related to the devices; (d) what is the breakdown of the amount spent on each type of device and how much does each individual device cost; (e) what are the details of any contracts related to the devices, including, for each, the (i) date, (ii) vendor, (iii) value, (iv) description of the goods or services provided, (v) manner in which the contract was awarded (sole-sourced or competitive bid); (f) are the regional police forces required to purchase the devices out of their own budgets, or does the government provide the devices to the regional police forces; and (g) if the regional police forces are required to purchase their own devices, what is the government's estimate of the cost burden each police force will incur, broken down by each force the government has an agreement with? |
