Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the clerk of the subcommittee presided over the election of vice-chairs.

On motion of Ali Ehsassi, it was agreed, — That Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe be elected Second Vice-Chair of the subcommittee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the subcommittee on Monday, February 14, 2022, the subcommittee resumed its study of human rights in repressive states: the situation of human rights defenders, journalists and media organizations.

The subcommittee resumed consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "The Situation of Human Rights Defenders, Journalists and Media Organizations".

It was agreed, — That the Chair, clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

The subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to subcommittee business.

At 9:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:10 a.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That one meeting be dedicated to an update on the current situation in Burkina Faso.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the subcommittee undertake a study of the situation of minorities in South Asia.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the subcommittee undertake a study of the current human rights situation in Nigeria.

It was agreed, — That the proposed calendar for the period of October 2022 to June 2023, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That members submit their list of witnesses, in order of priority, two weeks before the first meeting in relation to the studies adopted in the calendar for the period of October 2022 to June 2023.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the violations of human rights driving migration in Central and South America, the Chair be instructed to prepare the proposed preliminary submission for the subcommittee’s travel to Colombia and the United States, in the winter of 2023.

At 10:13 a.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
