At 11:07 a.m., the sitting resumed.
John Brassard moved, — That, in light of recent media reports, the committee immediately undertake a study, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(vi) and (vii), of the Public Health Agency of Canada collecting, using or possessing Canadians' private cellphone data, without their knowledge or consent, and:
(a) invite the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada to appear for one hour, including a five-minute opening statement, immediately following the adoption of this motion;
(b) invite the Minister of Health and the Minister of Indigenous Services to appear for one hour, including five-minute opening statements from each, immediately following the appearance referred to in paragraph (a); and
(c) request that the members of the committee provide to the clerk, no later than 5:00 p.m. today, their preliminary witness lists for this study.
Debate arose thereon.
Lisa Hepfner moved, — That the motion be amended by :
In section (a), deleting, after the word "statement", the words “, immediately following the adoption of this motion”;
In section (b), after the words "Minister of Health", remove the words "and the Minister of Indigenous Services"; after the word "including", add the word "a"; after the word "statements" remove the words "from each, immediately following the appearance referred to in paragraph (a)";
In section (c), after the word "5 p.m.", change the word "today" to "Friday, January 14".
Debate arose thereon.

Damien C. Kurek moved, — That the amendment be amended by replacing the words “Friday, January 14” with the words “one day following the adoption of this motion".

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the negative.
Accordingly, the motion was negatived.
René Villemure moved, — That the committee call upon the government to suspend the cellular data tender upon adoption of this motion until it reports its findings and recommendations to the House, and that the committee report the adoption of this motion to the House at the earliest opportunity.
At 1:09 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
