The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Jenny Kwan gave notice of the following motion:

That, in the context of the ninth report of the Auditor General of Canada to the Parliament of Canada, titled Processing Applications for Permanent Residence – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee invite the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship to appear before the committee for one hour and officials from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada to subsequently appear before the committee for one hour, for a total of two hours.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the committee proceeded to a briefing on the priorities and objectives for the Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

The Minister made a statement and, with Christiane Fox, answered questions.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the committee on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, the committee resumed its study of the exploitation scheme targeting certain international students.

Michèle Kingsley made a statement and, with Aaron McCrorie, answered questions.

On motion of Jenny Kwan, it was agreed, — That, in the context of the study of the exploitation scheme targeting certain international students, members of the committee be invited to ask written questions of the taskforce by submitting these questions to the clerk of the committee, and that all answers received be distributed to the committee.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 5:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
