Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, April 17, 2023, the committee resumed its study of animal biosecurity preparedness.

The committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 4:02 p.m., Kody Blois took the Chair.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That notwithstanding the motion adopted on Monday, October 30, 2023, the viewing of the documents from the five grocery chains be from November 8 to November 24, 2023, by appointment.

It was agreed, — That the clerk of the committee be instructed to draft and send a correspondence to Metro Inc., urging them to provide the documents requested by the order of production adopted on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

It was agreed, — That the committee invite the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food for questioning concerning the backlogs and ongoing issues surrounding the temporary foreign worker programs, as well as general questions regarding his ministry and its important role in Canada’s agriculture & agrifood sector; and that the minister appear before Sunday, December 10, 2023.

It was agreed, — That the Chair be instructed to draft and send a letter to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship regarding the multiples invitations that have been sent to appear before the committee regarding the topic of backlogs and ongoing issues surrounding the temporary foreign worker programs; and that this letter invite again the minister to appear before the committee and be questioned on this matter.

At 5:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
