The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met on Friday, October 23, 2020, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

  1. That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study for no less than six, and no more than 10 meetings on economic recovery in the forestry sector, including innovative uses of wood and wood products, including in the bio-economy, and to propose concrete measures to support businesses and research and development and to consider the best practices to assist in Canada’s goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions; that the committee hear from witnesses not limited to but including Natural Resource Canada, forestry sector firms and industry associations; and that the committee report its findings to the House.
  2. That the Subcommittee meet later this fall to consider other ideas for future studies.

It was agreed, — That, as part of its study on the economic recovery in the forestry sector, the committee invite to appear at its meeting of Tuesday, November 3, 2020, the following organizations: FPInnovations, Conseil de l'industrie forestière du Québec, the British Columbia Council of Forest Industries, SEREX and the Forest Products Association of Canada; and that, for the other meetings of this study, the committee invite two or three organizations per hour of meeting, grouped by topic if possible, based on the witnesses suggested by the parties.

At 1:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:06 p.m., the sitting resumed in a public and webcasted session.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, October 30, 2020, the committee commenced its study of economic recovery in the forestry sector.

Beth MacNeil made a statement and, with Jeff Warring, answered questions.

At 3:09 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
