Han Dong moved, — That in light of recent reports showing that since March 2020 more than 1,100 attacks against Canadians of Asian descent have been reported; that over 500 of those attacks occurred in the first two months of this year alone; that children, youth and seniors are most likely to be affected by incidents of physical assault; and that this coincides with a global rise of anti-Asian racism, including the killing of six Asian-American women in Georgia; that pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the committee undertake a study of no more than three meetings to review the rise of anti-Asian racism in Canada; that the committee report its findings to the House; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

Heather McPherson moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study on the roots of anti-Asian racism and strategies to prevent and deter anti-Asian racism, including support and resources for victims and communities; that the committee hold at least three meetings to hear from witnesses; that the committee present its findings and recommendations to the House no later than 180 calendar days from the adoption of this motion; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response to the report.
