Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(vi) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 2, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of the creation of an independent commissioner responsible for leaders’ debates.

Catherine Cano and Peter Van Dusen made statements and answered questions.

At 12:19 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:23 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Diane Bergeron, Thomas Simpson, Frank Folino and James Hicks made statements and answered questions.

At 1:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:05 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study of the creation of an independent commissioner responsible for leaders’ debates, the Committee invite the Liberal Party of Canada, the Conservative Party of Canada, the New Democratic Party, the Bloc Québecois and the Green Party of Canada to provide written submissions.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study of the creation of an independent commissioner responsible for leaders’ debates, the Committee invite representatives of the Jamaica Debates Commission and the Trinidad and Tobago Debates Commission to appear by videoconference.

At 1:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
