APPENDIX E: CANADIAN MILITARY AND POLICE PERSONNEL DEPLOYED ON UN PEACE OPERATIONS BY QUARTERS (2014-2019)

The figure provides the number of Canadian military personnel and police officers deployed on United Nations (UN) peace operations each quarter over the 2014 to 2019 period, with the numbers reflecting the end of each quarter: 31 March; 30 June; 30 September; and 31 December. The figure shows that more police officers than military personnel were deployed on peace operations in each of the quarters between that ending on 31 March 2014 and that ending on 30 June 2018. The largest difference between these two groups occurred in the quarter ending on 31 December 2016, with 105 police officers and 28 military personnel deployed on UN peace operations in that quarter. As well, the figure depicts a reduction in Canadian police officers and military personnel deployed between 2016 and 2018, reaching a low of 22 military personnel and 22 police officers deployed in the quarter ending on 30 June 2018. Moreover, the figure illustrates an increase in Canadian military personnel deployed on UN peace operations after 30 September 2018 as a result of the Canadian Armed Forces’ participation in the UN’s operation in Mali; in the quarter ending on 31 March 2019, more military personnel than police officers were deployed on such operations. Finally, in the quarter ending on 31 March 2019, a total of 192 Canadian military personnel and police officers were deployed on peace operations.
