STANDING COMMITTEE ON INDIGENOUS AND NORTHERN AFFAIRS TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS IN VANCOUVER, WINNIPEG, QUEBEC CITY AND BELLEVILLE FOR ITS STUDY ON SPECIFIC CLAIMS AND COMPREHENSIVE LAND CLAIMS AGREEMENTS

Ottawa, September 21, 2017 -

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs (“the Committee”) will hold public hearings from September 25, 2017 to September 29, 2017, at the following locations:

Vancouver, British Columbia: Coast Tsawwassen Inn (Delta, British Columbia) at 9:00 a.m.

Winnipeg, Manitoba: Homewood Suites by Hilton Winnipeg Airport at 8:00 a.m.

Quebec City, Quebec: Palace Royal at 8:00 a.m.

Belleville, Ontario: Belleville Travelodge Hotel at 8:00 a.m.

The Committee will hold public hearings to better understand the issues that affect the negotiation and implementation of specific claims and comprehensive land claims (including self-government agreements) and to understand the outcomes and impacts for Indigenous communities. The study’s terms of reference can be consulted at the February 21, 2017 minutes of proceedings and the May 9, 2017 minutes of proceedings.

Committee Chair Ms. MaryAnn Mihychuk will be joined by Committee Vice-Chairs, Ms. Cathy McLeod, and Mr. Romeo Saganash and Committee members, Mr. Gary Anandasangaree, Mr. Mike Bossio, Mr. T.J. Harvey, Mr. William Amos and Mr. Kevin Waugh.

The Committee will continue to study the matter over the fall. Interested individuals or groups may submit written briefs for the Committee’s consideration. Those interested in submitting a brief or a comment can do so online though the Committee’s website or by contacting the Committee Clerk at INAN@parl.gc.ca. Once received, submissions will be translated into both official languages and posted on the Committee’s website.
