Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on April 12, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of suicide among Indigenous peoples and communities.

The Committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a report.
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a comprehensive study of the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs' Default Prevention and Management policy, including its purpose, efficacy and possible alternatives; that the witness list include but not be limited to Departmental Officials overseeing the program, First Nations community leaders, service providers, and experts; and that the committee report its findings to the House of Commons.

At 9:55 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:59 a.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the next study the Committee undertake, following the Committee’s study on the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs’ Default Prevention and Management policy, be a study of comprehensive land claims agreements, also known as “modern treaties”, and self-government throughout Canada; the current processes being used across Canada and how they are currently being executed; the comparative benefits and challenges of different approaches to negotiations; the outcomes and impacts for Indigenous communities who have signed comprehensive land claims agreements; and that the Committee report its findings to the House of Commons.

At 10:08 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
