Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change on her mandate letter

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Subject Matter of Supplementary Estimates (C) 2015-16: Votes 1c and 10c under Environment, Vote 1c under Parks Canada Agency.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2016-17: Vote 1 under Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Environment and Votes 1 and 5 under Parks Canada Agency, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.

The Chair called Vote 1 under Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Clerk issue a news release for publication on the Committee's website and for distribution on the subject of the Committee's work plan.

Motion

Nathan Cullen moved, — That pursuant to the motion adopted on February 25th, that the Committee conduct a study to examine measures necessary for Canada to contribute its fair share to international efforts to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels as committed by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, including a review of a) national and regional trends and projections; b) carbon pricing methodologies; c) opportunities within the clean energy and clean technology sectors; and d) assessment of the positive and negative economic impacts; the Committee hold at least four meetings and complete this study by June 30th and report its findings to the House.

Amendment

Mark Gerretsen moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “the Committee hold at least four meetings and complete this study by June 30th and report its findings to the House” with the words “the Committee hold two meetings as adopted by the Committee on April 14, 2016 to be held on June 21 and 23".

The question was put on the amendment of Mark Gerretsen and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 1.

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 0.
