Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 25, 2016, the Committee resumed its study on family reunification.

Sharon Chomyn, by videoconference from London, United Kingdom, Mark Giralt, by videoconference from Washington, D.C., and Olivier Jacques, by videoconference, Mexico City, Mexico, made statements and answered questions.

At 9:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:09 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Elizabeth Snow and Shannon Fraser, by videoconference from Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Alexandra Hiles, by videoconference from Nairobi, Kenya, made statements and answered questions.

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the draft travel budget be amended to include only site visits to processing centres in Sydney, Nova Scotia and Mississauga, Ontario, in relation to the study on Modernization of Client Service Delivery; and that the Chair be authorized to submit this modified budget for approval.

It was agreed, — That the Chair be authorized to submit a budget for committee travel to refugee camps in Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon, or other relevant countries at his discretion, to meet with officers who process refugee applications as well as Canada’s partners such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, and non-governmental organizations; and that the Chair also be authorized to seek a budget for a reduced membership to travel, if necessary.

At 10:34 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
