Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of the media and local communities.

Jagdish Grewal and Yuri Bilinsky, by videoconference from Mississauga, Ontario, made statements and, with Jagdeep Kailey, answered questions.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:51 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Thomas S. Saras made a statement and, with Mohammad Tajdolati, answered questions.

At 10:32 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:34 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

Pierre Nantel moved, — That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage invite the President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Ms. Tricia Smith as well as any other relevant Board Members, for a one-hour televised meeting to update Members on the activities of the committee on the eve of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and that this meeting be held before Friday June 17th, 2016.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Pierre Breton moved, — That the motion be amended by adding between the words ''Members,'' and ''for'' the following: ''and Mr. Gaëtan Tardif, President of the Paralympic Committee,'' and by replacing the word ''held'' by the following: ''on Tuesday, June 7, 2016''.

The question was put on the amendment of Pierre Breton and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage invite the President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Ms. Tricia Smith as well as any other relevant Board Members, and Mr. Gaëtan Tardif, President of the Paralympic Committee, for a one-hour televised meeting to update Members on the activities of the committee on the eve of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games, and that this meeting be held on Tuesday June 7, 2016.

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

Motion

Pierre Nantel moved, — That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage invite the CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, Mr. Hubert T. Lacroix, for a televised two-hour meeting, to update Members of the Committee on the plans and strategies of the Crown Corporation, in light of the most recent reinvestment announced in the latest federal budget, and that this meeting be held before Friday June 17th, 2016.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Julie Dabrusin moved, — That the motion be amended by substituting the words ''two-hour'' to ''one-hour'' and by adding after the word ''held'' the following: ''on Tuesday, October 4, 2016''.
