The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of Ireland, Michael Creed, TD, at the end of the meeting on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, and Thursday, October 26, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of climate change and water and soil conservation issues.

The Committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a report.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of climate change and the water and soil conservation issues, the deadline to submit the recommendations to the Clerk of the Committee be extended to Friday, March 9, 2018.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Seventh Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met on Monday, February 26, 2018, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

  1. That, in relation to its study of the advancements of technology in the agriculture industry that can support Canadian exports:
    1. the Committee travel for a period of four days to the following areas: Montreal, Toronto, Saskatoon and Vancouver, to visit sites pertinent to this study;
    2. the Clerk prepare a detailed travel budget for the Committee’s consideration;
    3. the Committee invite the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food to provide a briefing session in preparation for the travel related to this study;
    4. members of the Committee send a list of suggested witnesses including their contact information to the Clerk of the Committee no later than Friday, March 9, 2018; and
    5. your Subcommittee meets on Monday, March 19, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm to prioritize the witnesses to invite to appear in Ottawa, with a view to organizing them in thematic panels if possible.
  2. That, in relation to the study of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2017-18 and the Interim Estimates 2018-19, the Committee invite the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to appear on Monday, March 19, 2018 or Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the advancements of technology in the agriculture industry that can support Canadian exports, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 67,072.60, for the Committee’s travel to Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Guelph, Ontario, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Vancouver, British Columbia, in April or May 2018, be adopted.

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:23 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

It was agreed, — That the Committee Members be authorized to take photographs during the sitting on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

At 5:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
