Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of a food policy for Canada.

Nick Saul, David J. Connell, by videoconference from Prince George, British Columbia, and Evan Fraser, by videoconference from Guelph, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Claire Citeau, Rebecca Lee and Mike Dungate made statements and, with Linda Delli Santi, answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

Ruth Ellen Brosseau moved, — That the Committee write once again to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, with the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food in cc, requesting a response to the two previous letters (from June 2016 and June 2017) regarding the implementation of a financial protection program for produce growers if a buyer declares bankruptcy; and that this new letter be distributed to Committee members and that it contain a provision about the expected timeline for a response.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

The Committee resumed consideration of its study of a food policy for Canada. Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
