Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 2, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of Canada’s Preferential Status under the United States Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA).

Ronald Cuming made a statement and answered questions.

On motion of Joe Peschisolido, ORDERED, — That the Chair write to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development to recommend to examine the model legislation put forth by Professor Ronald Cuming under the guidance of the horticulture industry and the Fruit and Vegetable Dispute Resolution Corporation with regards to Canada’s Preferential Status under the United States Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA), and to consider adopting a legislation based on this model as soon as possible.

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $10,700, for the study of Bee Health Monitoring in Canada, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the Committee study genetically modified animals for human consumption, including any changes which may be needed to adequately address the full range of potential issues around the approval of products involving genetically modified animals beyond health and safety, the challenges and opportunities this presents to Canada, and what steps should be taken to best inform the public about new products planned for introduction to the market; and that the Committee report its findings to the House no later than Thursday, December 8, 2016.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite departmental officials to appear on Monday, June 13, 2016, for a briefing session on Canada's Next Multi-year Agricultural Policy Framework.

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
