Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the Committee resumed its study of the perception of and public trust in the Canadian agricultural sector.

Stephen Laskowski, Janice Tranberg, Roger Pelissero and Tim Lambert made statements and answered questions.

At 11:56 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:01 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Johanne Ross, Serge Buy, Diana Bronson and Leticia Deawuo made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Earl Dreeshen moved, — That, pursuant to Standing order 108(2), the Committee invite the following witnesses to appear concerning the recent revocation by the Chinese government of Richardson International’s canola export registration to the Chinese market:

  • The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food;
  • The Minister of International Trade Diversification; and
  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs;

and that all witnesses appear no later than Thursday, March 21, 2019.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Earl Dreeshen, Randy Hoback, Alistair MacGregor, Bev Shipley — 4;

NAYS: Pierre Breton, Francis Drouin, Lloyd Longfield, Eva Nassif, Joe Peschisolido — 5.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 12:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 26,300, for the study of perception of and public trust in the Canadian agricultural sector, be adopted.

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
