The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Daryl Kramp, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Hon. Wayne Easter, Ted Falk, Randall Garrison, Roxanne James, Daryl Kramp, Rick Norlock and LaVar Payne.

 

Acting Members present: Élaine Michaud for Jean Rousseau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness: John Davies, Director General, National Security Policy; Ritu Banerjee, Director, Operational Policy and Review; Amanda Taschereau, Policy Advisor. Department of Justice: Sophie Beecher, Counsel, Public Safety Canada, Legal Services. Privy Council Office: Isabelle Mondou, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet and Counsel to the Clerk of the Privy Council; David Vigneault, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet, Security and Intelligence.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 14, 2015, the Committee commenced its study of the subject-matter of Division 2 (Prevention of Terrorist Travel Act) of Part 3, and Division 10 (Parliamentary Protective Service) of Part 3 of Bill C-59, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 21, 2015 and other measures.
 

John Davies made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 9:44 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:47 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to matters related to Committee Business.

 

It was agreed, — that a proposed budget in the amount of $ 2,300, for the study of Bill C-637, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (firearms storage and transportation) be adopted.
