Meeting No. 63

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Daryl Kramp, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Hon. Wayne Easter, Ted Falk, Randall Garrison, Roxanne James, Daryl Kramp, LaVar Payne and Jean Rousseau.

Acting Members present: Joyce Bateman for Rick Norlock.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst ; Christine Morris, Analyst.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee Business.

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security invite the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to appear before the Committee for one (1) hour on Thursday, April 23, 2015, to begin the study of Bill C-42, An Act to amend the Firearms Act and the Criminal Code and to make a related amendment and a consequential amendment to other Acts, followed by one (1) hour with departmental officials, and that the meeting be televised; that the Committee hold an additional two (2) meetings of witness testimony, with two (2) panels per meeting, and three (3) witnesses per panel; that the Committee begin clause by clause study of Bill C-42 no later than 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015; and, that proposed witness lists be submitted to the Clerk of the Committee by Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 6:00 p.m.

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security invite the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to appear before the Committee for one (1) hour on Thursday, May 7, 2015, to discuss the Main Estimates 2015-16, followed by senior officials for the remainder of the meeting.

At 9:24 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
