The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Leon Benoit, Kelly Block, Joan Crockatt, Linda Duncan, Claude Gravelle, Peter Julian, Ryan Leef, Christine Moore, Hon. Geoff Regan, Brad Trost and Bob Zimmer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Milana Simikian, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: National Energy Board: Kenneth Bateman, Member; Shane Parrish, Member; Ron Wallace, Member; Don Young, Member. Canada Foundation for Sustainable Development Technology: James Laurence Balsillie, Chairperson. Atomic Energy of Canada Limited: James Hall, Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Kenneth Bateman to the position of Member of the National Energy Board, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Shane Parrish to the position of Member of National Energy Board, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Ron Wallace to the position of Member of the National Energy Board, referred to the Committee on Friday, October 25, 2013.
 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Don Young to the position of Member of the National Energy Board, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
 

Kenneth Bateman, Shane Parrish, Ron Wallace and Don Young made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair report to the House that the Committee has examined the qualifications and competence of Kenneth Bateman, Shane Parrish, Ron Wallace and Don Young to the position of Member of the National Energy Board and finds them competent to perform the duties of the position.

 

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of James Laurence Balsillie to the position of Chairperson of the Canada Foundation for Sustainable Development Technology, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of James Hall to the position of Director of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
 

James Laurence Balsillie and James Hall made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Ryan Leef, it was agreed on division, — That the Chair report to the House that the Committee has examined the qualifications and competence of James Laurence Balsillie to the position of Chairperson of the Canada Foundation for Sustainable Development Technology and finds him competent to perform the duties of the position.

 

On motion of Joan Crockatt, it was agreed on division, — That the Chair report to the House that the Committee has examined the qualifications and competence of James Hall to the position of Director of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and finds him competent to perform the duties of the position.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
