The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Leon Benoit, Kelly Block, Joan Crockatt, Linda Duncan, Claude Gravelle, Peter Julian, Ryan Leef, Christine Moore, Hon. Geoff Regan, Brad Trost and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Rod Bruinooge for Mike Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Milana Simikian, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite officials from the Department of Natural Resources for a briefing session regarding the Major Projects Management Office on Monday, November 18, 2013.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 111, the Committee invite: Kenneth Bateman, Shane Parrish, Don Young and Ron Wallace, appointed to the National Energy Board; James Laurence Balsillie, appointed to be Chairperson of the Canada Foundation for Sustainable Development Technology; and James Hall, appointed to be a director of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited; to appear before the Committee on November 20, 2013, and that the Committee examine their qualifications to perform the duties of the post to which they have been appointed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Natural Resources and officials from the Department to appear before the Committee to discuss the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2013-14.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the rare earths industry in Canada, given its economic potential and strategic relevance, and that the Committee report back to the House with a request for a Government response.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study on the rare earths industry in Canada, members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee, by Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 5:00 p.m., their prioritized lists of witnesses.

 

At 4:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
