Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.
I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot receive other types of motions, cannot entertain points of order, nor participate in debate.

[Translation]

We may now proceed to the election of the chair.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.

[English]

I'm ready to receive motions for the election of the chair.
    Mr. Julian.
I would like to propose Leon Benoit, because he promised us Starbucks at every meeting, and that's a commitment I know he will keep.
    We haven't been promised that.
Are there any further motions? Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)

[Translation]

The clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Benoît duly elected chair of the committee.

[English]

Before inviting Mr. Benoit to take the chair, if the committee wishes, we will proceed to the election of the vice-chairs.

[Translation]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the first vice-chair must be a member of the official opposition.

[English]

I'm now prepared to receive motions for the first vice-chair.
    Mr. Benoit.
    I nominate Peter Julian.

[Translation]

It has been moved by Mr. Leon Benoit that Mr. Peter Julian be elected first vice-chair of the committee.

[English]

Are there any further motions? Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)

[Translation]

The clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Julian duly elected first vice-chair of the committee.

[English]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the second vice-chair must be a member of an opposition party other than the official opposition.

[Translation]

I am now ready to receive motions for the second vice-chair.

[English]

    I nominate Geoff Regan.
It has been moved by Ms. Duncan that Mr. Regan be elected as second vice-chair of the committee. Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)

[Translation]

The clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Regan duly elected second vice-chair of the committee.

[English]

I now invite Mr. Benoit to take the chair.
Good morning everyone, and thank you all very much for your support. I do appreciate that.
Congratulations to Mr. Julian and Mr. Regan on being elected as vice-chairs. Well done. Another hard-fought election, particularly for you Mr. Regan, seeing that the rules kind of...but no. Congratulations.
We have nothing else on the agenda, but I want to ask if there is unanimous consent to go on and have a meeting today on future business of the committee.
Is there unanimous consent to do that?
    Mr. Julian.
I think we would provide some consent, Mr. Chair, though because of some things happening in the House, I suggest it be about a half hour at the most. Is that what you're planning?
Sure. At any time if someone thinks they have to go, we'll end the meeting at that time.
I see consent. We have to suspend for a couple of minutes to go in camera.
    [Proceedings continue in camera]
