The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Blaine Calkins, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Matthew Kellway, Ève Péclet, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Phil McColeman for Patrick Brown, Francis Scarpaleggia for Sean Casey, Brian Storseth for Kyle Seeback and Rodney Weston for Patrick Brown.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Jean Cormier, Director, Federal Coordination Centres. Canada Border Services Agency: Geoffrey Leckey, Director General, Enforcement and Intelligence Operations. Mohawk Council of Akwesasne: Brian David, Chief; Steven Thomas, Chief. Mohawk Council of Kahnawake: Gina Deer, Council Chief.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 5, 2013, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (trafficking in contraband tobacco).
 

Jean Cormier and Geoffrey Leckey made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $512.00, for the study of the subject matter of Clauses 471 and 472 of Bill C-4, A second act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures, be adopted.

 

Chief Brian David, Chief Steven Thomas and Chief Gina Deer made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
