The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patrick Brown, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Irwin Cotler for Sean Casey, Randall Garrison for Françoise Boivin and Hon. John McKay for Sean Casey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police: Jim Chu, President, Chief Constable, Vancouver City Police Department; Carole Matthews, Member, Manager, Technological Crime Unit, Ontario Provincial Police. Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, April 28, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Competition Act and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.
 

Jean-Michel Blais, by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jim Chu, Carson Pardy and Joe Oliver made statements and, with Mercer Armstrong, answered questions.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 18,850, for the study of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Competition Act and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, be adopted.

 

At 12:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
