The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Raymond Côté, Cheryl Gallant, Peggy Nash, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, Dave Van Kesteren and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Peter Braid for Hon. Mike Lake and Anne Minh-Thu Quach for Brian Masse.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Édison Roy-César, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Pamela Miller, Director General, Telecommunications Policy Branch; Christopher Johnstone, Senior Director, Industry Framework Policy; Darlene Carreau, Chairperson, Trade-marks Opposition Board; Paul Halucha, Director General, Marketplace Framework Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of subject matter of clauses 175 to 192 (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation), clauses 239 to 241 (Telecommunications Act) and 317 to 368 (Amendments Relating to International Treaties on Trademarks) 369-370 (Reduction of Governor in Council Appointments) of Bill C-31, An act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures.
 

Pamela Miller made a statement and, with Christopher Johnstone, answered questions.

 

At 4:24 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Paul Halucha made a statement and, with Darlene Carreau, answered questions.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
