The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Chris Charlton, Cheryl Gallant, Ed Holder, Brian Jean, Hon. Mike Lake, Phil McColeman, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Hon. Judy Sgro, Kennedy Stewart, David Sweet, Glenn Thibeault and Mark Warawa.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. James Moore, P.C., M.P., Minister of Industry.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: John Knubley, Deputy Minister; Paul Halucha, Director General, Marketplace Framework Policy Branch. Canada Border Services Agency: Martin Bolduc, Vice-President, Operations Branch. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Eric Slinn, Director General, Support Services for Federal Policing.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, October 28, 2013 and the motion adopted on Monday, October 28, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to amend the Copyright Act and the Trade-marks Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

 

On motion of Chris Charlton, it was agreed, — That the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness be invited to appear to speak on Bill C-8, An Act to amend the Copyright Act and the Trade-marks Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

 

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
