The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Chris Charlton, Raymond Côté, Cheryl Gallant, Ed Holder, Hon. Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Hon. Judy Sgro and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Wallace for Mark Warawa.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Édison Roy-César, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite General (Retired) Walter Natynczyk, President of the Canadian Space Agency for a briefing session.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study on the entertainment software industry in Canada and its integral role in the Canadian economy, and how the industry continues to be a model for growth and technological innovation, commercial success, and the creation of highly-skilled jobs, and that it report its findings to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That, further to the Order adopted by the House on December 3, 2013, regarding changes to committee memberships, the Committee’s routine motion regarding the questioning of witnesses be replaced by the following: the witnesses from any one organization shall be allowed ten (10) minutes to make their opening statement; that, during the questioning of witnesses, there shall be allocated eight (8) minutes for the first round of questioning and thereafter, at the discretion of the Chair, eight (8) minutes shall be allocated to each questioner in the second and subsequent rounds of questioning; and that the order of questions for the first round of questioning shall be as follows: Conservative, NDP, Conservative, Liberal; that questioning during the second round shall alternate between the Government members and Opposition members in the following fashion: Conservative, NDP, Conservative, NDP, Conservative, based on the principle that each committee member should have a full opportunity to question the witness(es); and that, if time permits, further rounds shall repeat the pattern of the first two, again, at the discretion of the Chair.

 

At 3:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
