The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Phil McColeman, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Tarik Brahmi, Brad Butt, Rodger Cuzner, Sadia Groguhé, Larry Maguire, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Cathy McLeod and Jinny Jogindera Sims.

 

Acting Members present: John Carmichael for Larry Maguire.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Vale: Cory McPhee, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs; Bob Carter, Manager, Corporate Affairs. Goldcorp Inc.: Colin Webster, Director, Aboriginal, Government & Community Relations, Canada and United States. Rio Tinto: Jay Fredericks, Director of Environment, Communities and Regulatory Affairs. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of opportunities for aboriginal persons in the workforce.
 

Cory McPhee, Colin Webster and Jay Fredericks each made a statement and, with Bob Carter, answered questions.

 

At 9:44 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:50 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mary-Pat Campbell and Paul Semple each made a statement and, with Heather Kennedy and Leanne Hall, answered questions.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
