The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ryan Cleary, Patricia Davidson, Fin Donnelly, Randy Kamp, Greg Kerr, Ryan Leef, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, Philip Toone, John Weston and Rodney Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Marc-André Morin for Robert Chisholm.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Thai Nguyen, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Tim Angus, Acting Director General of External Relations, International Trade and Market; David Bevan, Associate Deputy Minister; Nadia Bouffard, Acting Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy; John Campbell, Director, Aquaculture Policy and Regulatory Initiatives.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the fish component of the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
 

David Bevan made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Ryan Cleary moved, — That the Committee undertake a study on the impacts of the elimination of Minimum Processing Requirements in Newfoundland and Labrador as a condition of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and that the Committee report to the House on its findings.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Randy Kamp moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Patricia Davidson, Randy Kamp, Greg Kerr, Ryan Leef, Robert Sopuck, John Weston — 6; NAYS: Ryan Cleary, Fin Donnelly, Lawrence MacAulay, Marc-André Morin, Philip Toone — 5.

 

At 4:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study of the potential benefits and challenges of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) for Canadian Fisheries and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

 

At 4:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
