HOUSE FINANCE COMMITTEE RELEASES REPORT ON YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

Ottawa, June 12, 2014 -

Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance released a report entitled Youth Employment in Canada: Challenges and Potential Solutions. The report, which contains 23 recommendations, reflects hearings conducted from 6 March–8 April 2014. During that period, the Committee met with 36 organizations and two individuals, and received 26 written briefs, that are available on the Committee’s website.

“The Committee received a wide range of testimony on the challenges faced by – and solutions proposed for – youth as students, employees, unemployed and underemployed individuals, and entrepreneurs,” stated Mr. James Rajotte, Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Leduc and Chair of the Committee. “I am confident that implementation of the recommendations made by the Committee will help to ensure that Canada’s youth are able to realize their potential in the variety of roles they may play within society.”
