The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Joyce Bateman, Hon. Scott Brison, Hon. Ron Cannan, Raymond Côté, Nathan Cullen, Pierre Dionne Labelle, James Rajotte, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Zimmer for Andrew Saxton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Bank of Canada: Rhys Mendes, Deputy Chief, Canadian Economic Analysis. Canadian Automobile Association: Jeff Walker, Vice-President, Public Affairs. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jayson Myers, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association: Mark Nantais, President. Unifor: James Stanford, Economist. Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association: Flavio Volpe, President. Canadian Labour Congress: Angella MacEwen, Senior Economist, Social and Economic Policy. Forest Products Association of Canada: Catherine Cobden, Executive Vice-President. Canadian Steel Producers Association: Ron Watkins, President. Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo: Melissa Blake, Mayor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2015, the Committee resumed its study of the Impact of Low Oil Prices on the Canadian Economy.
 

Rhys Mendes, Jeff Walker, Jayson Myers, Mark Nantais and James Stanford, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:17 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:20 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Flavio Volpe, Angella MacEwen, Catherine Cobden, Ron Watkins and Melissa Blake, by videoconference from Fort McMurray, Alberta, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:52 a.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

On motion of Nathan Cullen, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $24,000, for the study of the Impact of Low Oil Prices on the Canadian Economy, be adopted.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 

At 11:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
