The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and Bernard Trottier.

Acting Members present: Jean Rousseau for Paul Dewar.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst ; Brian Hermon, Analyst . House of Commons: Caroline Massicotte, Procedural Clerk.

Witnesses: UNICEF Canada: David Morley, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Society for International Health: James Chauvin, Member of Board of Directors; Eva Slawecki, Interim Executive Director. As an individual: Zulfiqar Bhutta, Co-Director, Centre for Global Child Health, Hospital for Sick Children.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the Protection of Children and Youth in Developing Countries.

David Morley, James Chauvin and Zulfiqar Bhutta, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and, with Eva Slawecki, answered questions.

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 12:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
